The Bentley Torcal is the first fully electric Bentley, and Crewe has not simply turned the Bentayga into a battery car. Unveiled in London on 23 September 2026, this 5-metre SUV opens a fourth model line alongside the Continental GT, the Flying Spur and the Bentayga, with up to 888 hp and 600 km of WLTP range.

What Bentley revealed in London

The Torcal arrives later than planned. A first electric model was expected as early as 2025, and Bentley has since pushed back its goal of an all-electric range to 2035, from the 2030 originally set in its Beyond100+ strategy. The brand nevertheless presents it as the template for its future cars, whatever their powertrain. “I believe this is one of the best Bentleys ever,” says Frank-Steffen Walliser, Chairman and CEO.

Its name follows the house tradition of great landscapes. It comes from a natural site in Andalusia known for its rock formations, and also echoes the Latin torquere, “to twist”, the root of the word torque. Here are the key figures released by the brand.

  • Two versions, Torcal and Torcal S, with two motors and all-wheel drive
  • Torcal: 821 hp, 1,194 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 3.4 s, 250 km/h
  • Torcal S: 888 hp, 1,350 Nm with Launch Control, 0-100 km/h in 2.9 s, 260 km/h
  • 113 kWh battery, 192 cells, 800-volt architecture
  • Up to 600 km of WLTP range
  • Charging at up to 400 kW, 161 km added in seven minutes
  • 5 metres long, 460-litre boot and 90 litres under the front bonnet
  • First deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2027

How does the most powerful Bentley ever perform?

The Torcal S is the most powerful production Bentley ever built, and the quickest from a standstill. It claims 888 hp and, with Launch Control engaged, 1,350 Nm, enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds on its way to 260 km/h. The standard Torcal is no lesser version, with 821 hp, 1,194 Nm, 3.4 seconds and 250 km/h.

Bentley adds an important nuance. This vigour stays, in its own words, “within the boundaries of comfort”. Acceleration is designed to be seamless and progressive from the first touch of the pedal, not brutal.

Two permanent-magnet synchronous motors share the work, one per axle. The front uses an open differential, the rear a controlled locking differential, with a multi-plate clutch on each output shaft to meter torque between the two wheels.

Is the Torcal a Porsche Cayenne Electric in disguise?

It is a fair question. The Torcal sits on the Volkswagen Group's PPE platform, shared with the Porsche Cayenne Electric and the Audi Q6 e-tron. It takes over the 800-volt architecture, a 113 kWh battery and an almost identical footprint, since the Cayenne measures 4.985 metres.

Bentley says it has recalibrated every system for its own car. The Torcal also brings a first for the brand, a fully active suspension. Its two-valve controlled dampers can raise or lower each corner of the car instantly, which allows it to do without anti-roll bars. All-wheel steering is standard, with up to 5 degrees of rear steering angle and an 11.1-metre turning circle.

As standard, the Torcal stops with iron discs measuring 420 mm at the front and 370 mm at the rear. Carbon ceramic brakes of 440 and 410 mm are optional, and Bentley ranks them among the largest in the world on a production car.

What range and charging can you expect day to day?

Bentley quotes up to 600 km on the WLTP cycle. The 113 kWh battery combines 192 pouch cells connected in series at 800 volts. It is a solid figure for an SUV of this size and power, without being a record. The Cayenne Turbo Electric, although more powerful, claims up to 623 km.

Charging is the most convincing argument. On a 400 kW charger, the Torcal adds 161 km in seven minutes. For 10 to 80%, the press release gives two values, 16 minutes in its specification sheet and “just under 20 minutes” in its main text. It is therefore wiser to keep a range in mind until road tests settle the question.

Then there is the infrastructure. Chargers able to deliver 400 kW are still rare on European networks, and it will often be the charger, not the car, that sets the pace. The battery is covered by a 10-year or 100,000-mile warranty, about 160,000 km.

What is the Torcal's cabin like?

The cabin is where Bentley sets itself apart most clearly from its cousins. The curved OLED screens are unique to the brand, facial recognition identifies the driver to load their settings, and a smartphone can serve as the key. All four doors open and close electrically, controlled by radar.

The most distinctive new feature is called the Curation Engine. This system tunes air, sound and light together according to four moods.

  • Bentley, the default setting, warm and balanced
  • Comfort, calmer, with a “digital detox” option that shows only the essentials
  • Sport, with an immersive soundtrack and a display focused on driving
  • Refresh, which increases fresh-air circulation and brightens the lighting

The Frosted Diamond glass roof switches from clear to frosted on demand. The rear bench seats three and folds electrically, a first for Bentley. The standard audio system offers 620 W and 16 speakers, while the Naim option rises to 1,780 W and 28 speakers, with Dolby Atmos and seat shakers.

The materials share the same ambition. Bentley introduces the first 100% merino wool automotive fabric, woven with Fox Brothers, a Somerset mill founded in the 18th century. The Ombré Walnut finish by Mulliner stacks up to 1,000 layers of walnut off-cuts and recycled paper, sliced to less than a millimetre.

Can an electric Bentley still have a voice?

Bentley ruled out purely synthetic sound. The Torcal's sound signature, called Bentley Dynamic Symphony, was composed with real instruments (drums, viola, bass guitar) to recreate the rhythm of a Bentley V8. It changes with torque demand and speed, and deliberately keeps small imperfections. Even the indicator comes from the Crewe upholstery workshop, where the team recorded a hammer striking a leather hide.

The design follows the same idea of continuity. The diamond grille lights up, the overhangs are short and the muscular rear haunches form what the designers call the “resting beast”. Several lines echo the Continental of the 1990s. Wheels measure 21 inches on the Torcal and 22 inches on the Torcal S, which adds black brightware, dark rear lamps and red calipers.

When does it arrive and how much will it cost?

The Torcal can be configured since its unveiling, and first deliveries are expected in the second quarter of 2027. It is designed, engineered and built in Crewe, England, like the rest of the range.

Bentley has not published any pricing for Luxembourg, Belgium or France. In the UK, the press reports between £165,000 and £175,000 for the Torcal and around £200,000 for the Torcal S. About 16 cm shorter than the Bentayga, it does not necessarily sit below it on price.

How does it compare with the Cayenne Turbo Electric and the Maybach EQS SUV?

Two rivals stand out. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric shares its platform, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV targets the same luxury electric SUV buyers. Here are their manufacturer figures, for the most powerful version of each model.

  • Bentley Torcal S: 888 hp, 1,350 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 2.9 s, 260 km/h, 113 kWh battery, up to 600 km WLTP, charging at up to 400 kW
  • Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric: up to 1,156 hp with Launch Control, 1,500 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 2.5 s, 260 km/h, 113 kWh gross battery, up to 623 km WLTP, charging at up to 400 kW
  • Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV: 658 hp, 950 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 4.4 s, 210 km/h, 118 kWh usable battery, about 600 km WLTP, charging at up to 200 kW

Verdict. The Torcal does not try to beat its Porsche cousin, which is more powerful, quicker and slightly longer-legged on paper. It bets on active comfort, materials and cabin atmosphere, and clearly outpaces the Maybach in acceleration and charging speed. Of the three, it is the most balanced for buyers who put luxury ahead of raw performance, provided they wait until 2027.

Should you wait for the Torcal or drive electric now?

Several unknowns remain, starting with European prices and the final charging time, and the first cars will not be on the road for several months. Buying such a model at launch also means betting on its resale value, in a luxury electric segment that is still young.

A subscription avoids that bet. At Turismo, the car, insurance, maintenance and tyres come in a single monthly payment, for a term you choose, in Luxembourg, Belgium and France.

The Torcal's technical cousin is already in the catalogue, by the way. The Porsche Cayenne S Electric uses the same PPE platform and the same 800-volt architecture, and its page shows when it is available. To stay with Bentley, the Continental GT is also part of the fleet.
