Range Rover will end production of the Evoque and the Velar in 2027, and neither will be replaced. The brand's two cheapest models are disappearing without a new generation, and without the electric Evoque that the British press was still predicting a year ago.

The news was revealed on 3 November 2026 by the British magazine Autocar, which interviewed Martin Limpert, the brand's managing director. JLR, the group that owns Range Rover, confirmed it the same day in a statement sent to the press. Here is what has been announced, what remains unclear about the dates, and what it changes if you drive an Evoque or are thinking about one.

What is happening to the Evoque and the Velar?

Both SUVs are reaching the end of their careers and will not be renewed. Martin Limpert confirmed to Autocar that no new generation is in development, either for the Evoque, launched in 2011 and renewed at the end of 2018, or for the Velar, which arrived in 2017. Each is nearing the end of its life after around ten years in production.

In its statement, JLR explains that production will end at the close of their normal life cycle, as its factories prepare to build the next generation of vehicles. Both models will remain on sale throughout 2027 in selected markets where demand remains strong, without the group saying which ones.

  • Evoque: no third generation, production ends in 2027.
  • Velar: no second generation, production ends in 2027.
  • Sales: continuing in 2027 in some markets, according to JLR.
  • Electric version: none, even though an electric Evoque had been under consideration since 2021.

When does production of the Evoque and Velar end?

The sources do not give quite the same date. In its statement, JLR says production of both models will end in mid-2027. Autocar, for its part, writes, based on Martin Limpert's comments, that the Evoque and Velar will remain in production throughout 2027, and the Australian site CarExpert talks of production stopping by the end of 2027. Only JLR gives a specific period, the middle of the year.

The timetable depends mainly on the factories. The Evoque is built at Halewood, near Liverpool, alongside the Discovery Sport, whose production ends in December 2026. This plant, undergoing a £500 million conversion, will then build the Range Rover GT and a new Defender-family model. The Velar is produced at Solihull, near Birmingham, which will concentrate on the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport and the future Jaguar Type 01, according to JLR.

Why is Range Rover dropping its cheapest models?

JLR has turned Range Rover, Defender and Discovery into three brands in their own right. In this split, Range Rover keeps the top end of the market, while smaller and more affordable models will go to Defender and Discovery, Autocar explains. Range Rover therefore no longer needs to cover such a large part of the market.

In the UK, the Evoque starts at just under £40,000 and the Velar at under £60,000, according to the magazine. These price points will be covered in future by Defender and Discovery models. The first will be the Defender Sport, a more compact SUV expected in 2027, which will share the Range Rover GT's platform and factory.

Yet the Evoque carried the group's sales for a long time. It topped 100,000 units a year several times in the mid-2010s, whereas JLR sold just over 400,000 vehicles in total last year. The Velar never enjoyed the same success, with sales peaking at around half those of the Evoque, according to Autocar. The group is now focusing on more expensive models that earn more.

The decision contrasts with earlier announcements. In November 2025, Autocar described a third-generation electric Evoque, expected at the end of 2027 at the earliest, an idea first floated by JLR in 2021. As recently as July 2026, Martin Limpert told the same magazine that the brand had no immediate plans to stop the Evoque, and that it was keeping it alive with special editions such as the Hoxton Edition.

Does the Range Rover GT replace the Velar?

No, according to Martin Limpert, who corrects a widespread idea. The Range Rover GT was not designed to succeed the Velar, but as a new, more road-focused model that keeps the brand's off-road capability. Presented in July 2026 as the fifth member of the family, it was in fact meant to join the Velar and the Evoque, not replace them.

Together with the Range Rover Sport, it will nevertheless become the brand's entry point. Autocar expects it at the start of 2027, electric first, at around £100,000 in the UK, then as a hybrid at around £90,000, close to the price of the current Range Rover Sport. No price has been announced in euros.

  • Range Rover GT: the new entry model, electric at launch, expected in early 2027.
  • Range Rover Sport: with combustion engines, as a plug-in hybrid and as an electric model.
  • Range Rover: the brand's large model, also available as an electric version.
  • Evoque and Velar: still on sale in 2027 in some markets, with no successor.

For the electric versions of the two large models, presented in September 2026, read our article on the Range Rover Electric and the one on the electric Range Rover Sport. Diesel remains part of the brand's line-up, Martin Limpert added.

Can you still drive an Evoque?

Yes. The Evoque remains in production until 2027 and on sale new throughout that year in some markets. It is not a model of the past, but a generation reaching the end of its run, facelifted and enriched with special editions up to this year.

At Turismo, the Evoque is available on subscription in Luxembourg and Belgium, as the D165 diesel. It is not available in France.

Our view

The Evoque opened Range Rover up to drivers who would never have chosen one of the brand's large SUVs, and the Velar extended the idea with cleaner styling. Dropping them without a successor makes Range Rover a much more expensive brand, with its entry price rising from around £40,000 to around £90,000 in the UK, based on Autocar's estimates. If you want a compact Range Rover, you have a little over a year left before the baton passes to the future Defender Sport.
